{"id":62977,"date":"2025-12-26T17:02:35","date_gmt":"2025-12-26T22:02:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bnonews.com\/?p=62977"},"modified":"2025-12-26T17:02:35","modified_gmt":"2025-12-26T22:02:35","slug":"somalia-rejects-israels-recognition-of-somaliland-as-independent-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bnonews.com\/index.php\/2025\/12\/somalia-rejects-israels-recognition-of-somaliland-as-independent-state\/","title":{"rendered":"Somalia rejects Israel\u2019s recognition of Somaliland as independent state"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Somalia\u2019s federal government has formally rejected Israel\u2019s recognition of Somaliland as an independent country, calling the move a violation of Somalia\u2019s sovereignty and territorial integrity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MOFASomalia\/status\/2004645991115620431\">statement<\/a> was issued on Friday after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced earlier in the day that Israel had officially recognized the Republic of Somaliland as an independent and sovereign state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In its press release, the Federal Republic of Somalia said it \u201ccategorically and unequivocally\u201d rejects what it described as an unlawful attempt to recognize its northern region as a separate state. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Somali authorities said Somaliland remains an \u201cintegral, inseparable, and inalienable\u201d part of Somalia, and warned that any declaration or recognition seeking to alter the country\u2019s unity is null and without legal effect under international law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The statement also reaffirmed Somalia\u2019s support for the Palestinian people and rejected occupation, forced displacement, and settlement expansion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Israel\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/IsraeliPM\/status\/2004550707530076582\">announcement<\/a> followed the signing of a joint declaration by Prime Minister Netanyahu, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa\u2019ar, and the president of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Israeli officials said the declaration was made in the spirit of the Abraham Accords, which were signed at the initiative of President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Israel is the first country to officially recognize Somaliland as an independent state.
