A Honduran lawmaker was injured after an explosive device was thrown at a group of people outside the Honduran National Congress, according to political leaders and party officials. The incident was captured on multiple videos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The attack occurred on Thursday in the capital, Tegucigalpa, as lawmakers from the opposition National Party were giving statements to the media outside the Congress building. According to party officials, the device was thrown toward the group, struck Congresswoman Gladis Aurora L\u00f3pez in the head, and then detonated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tom\u00e1s Zambrano, head of the National Party\u2019s congressional caucus, said L\u00f3pez suffered significant injuries and was treated immediately by medical teams at the scene. Local media reports said she sustained visible injuries to her head and back and was bleeding, but is out of danger. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She was later taken to a private hospital for further treatment. Authorities are still determining whether other people present were injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
