U.S. and partner forces carried out large-scale strikes against multiple Islamic State targets across Syria, as part of an ongoing military operation launched in response to a deadly December ISIS attack that killed U.S. personnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
U.S. Central Command said the strikes were conducted at about 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time on Saturday across multiple locations in Syria. The operation is part of Operation Hawkeye Strike, which CENTCOM<\/a> said was launched on Dec. 19 at the direction of Donald Trump following an ISIS ambush on Dec. 13 in Palmyra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n CENTCOM said the Dec. 13 attack was carried out by an ISIS terrorist and resulted in the deaths of two U.S. service members and one U.S. civilian interpreter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In a statement, CENTCOM said the latest strikes targeted ISIS positions throughout Syria as part of efforts to prevent future attacks and protect U.S. and partner forces in the region. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cOur message remains strong: if you harm our warfighters, we will find you and kill you anywhere in the world, no matter how hard you try to evade justice,\u201d the command said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The strikes follow earlier operations conducted after the launch of Operation Hawkeye Strike.
