U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States is making progress in its relationship with Venezuela following a phone call with acting Venezuelan President Delcy Rodr\u00edguez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during a signing ceremony<\/a> at the White House on Wednesday, Trump said he had held a \u201clong call\u201d earlier in the day with Venezuela\u2019s interim president Delcy Rodriguez and said the two sides are \u201cgetting along really well,\u201d adding that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is involved in ongoing discussions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump described Rodriguez as \u201ca terrific person\u201d with whom the United States has worked well. He said the conversation covered \u201ca lot of things\u201d and suggested it marked an improvement in bilateral relations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, Trump said in a social media that the two discussed oil, minerals, trade, and national security. \u201cWe are making tremendous progress, as we help Venezuela stabilize and recover,\u201d Trump wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rodr\u00edguez confirmed the call in a statement<\/a> issued by the Venezuelan presidency, saying she held a \u201clong, productive and courteous\u201d telephone conversation with Trump. She said the discussion addressed a bilateral work agenda \u201cfor the benefit of our peoples,\u201d as well as pending issues between the two governments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a later statement, Rodr\u00edguez said Venezuela is entering \u201ca new political moment\u201d that allows for understanding despite political and ideological differences.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
