U.S. President Trump said the United Nations should continue operating after he was asked whether his proposed \u201cboard of peace\u201d for Gaza was intended to replace the global body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking at a press briefing Tuesday, Trump responded to a reporter\u2019s question about whether the new body would supplant the UN. \u201cThe UN has not been very helpful,” Trump said. “I\u2019m a big fan of the UN potential, but it has never lived up to it.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The UN should have settled every one of the wars that I settled,” Trump added. “I believe you got to let the UN continue, because the potential is so great.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A U.S. official told CBS News<\/a> that Trump wants a signing ceremony for the board during the World Economic Forum in Davos on Thursday and has considered whether the board\u2019s work should extend beyond Gaza, potentially positioning it as a rival to the United Nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Confirmed participants to the board include Canada, Albania, Argentina, Armenia, Belarus, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Morocco, Paraguay, the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Additional countries and organizations have been invited to participate, including Australia, Brazil, China, Germany, India, Israel, Japan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Ukraine and the European Union, among others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n France has declined the invitation, citing concerns that the initiative could undermine the United Nations, according to Politico<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Reporter: Do you want the board of peace to replace the UN?
