Washington College in Maryland has been placed on lockdown after police reported a credible threat involving a known individual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chestertown Police Department said<\/a> Tuesday evening at 7:50 p.m. local time that officers were on the campus of Washington College following a credible threat made by a known individual. Police said the lockdown was ordered to protect students and staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Around 9 p.m., a spokesperson for the college told Kent County News<\/a>, \u201cWe are treating this seriously, especially as this is the first day of school after winter break. We\u2019re working closely with law enforcement, and we\u2019re doing everything we can to keep our students and campus community safe, calm, and informed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington College is a private liberal arts college located in Chestertown, on Maryland\u2019s Eastern Shore. The school enrolls about 1,000 undergraduate students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
