President Trump criticized U.S. Olympic freestyle skier Hunter Hess after the athlete said it was \u201chard\u201d to represent the United States at the Winter Olympics, according to a post from the president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“U.S. Olympic Skier, Hunter Hess, a real Loser, says he doesn\u2019t represent his Country in the current Winter Olympics,” Trump said in a post<\/a> on Sunday. “If that\u2019s the case, he shouldn\u2019t have tried out for the Team, and it\u2019s too bad he\u2019s on it. Very hard to root for someone like this.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hess, 27, from Bend, Oregon, made the remarks at a press conference during the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Games, where he is competing in freestyle skiing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt brings up mixed emotions to represent the U.S. right now. I think it\u2019s a little hard,\u201d Hess said<\/a>. \u201cThere\u2019s obviously a lot going on that I\u2019m not the biggest fan of, and I think a lot of people aren\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He later added, \u201cJust because I\u2019m wearing the flag doesn\u2019t mean I represent everything that\u2019s going on in the U.S.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christopher Lillis, a teammate of Hess, also addressed political issues in the United States, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) actions, during the same press conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I think that as a country, we need to focus on respecting everybody\u2019s rights and making sure that we\u2019re treating our citizens as well as anybody with love and respect,\u201d Lillis said. \u201cAnd I hope that when people look at athletes compete in the Olympics, they realize that that\u2019s the America we\u2019re trying to represent.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
