An Indiana police officer has died after being shot while responding to a domestic disturbance, according to officials. A second officer who was also shot is in stable condition and is expected to survive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The shooting occurred Monday just before 6 p.m. in the 100 block of Diplomat Court in Beech Grove, a city southeast of Indianapolis. Officers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance inside an apartment when they were shot upon arrival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is with a heavy heart that I inform you that today we lost one of our very own, Officer Brian Elliott,\u201d a Beech Grove official said during a press briefing Monday night. \u201cOur officers put on their uniform every day to serve and protect this community, and Brian made the ultimate sacrifice in doing so.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officials said Elliott, 33, had been with the department for approximately two years. He was described as a lifelong Beech Grove resident who had long wanted to serve as a police officer in his hometown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
