On Sunday, Mexican forces carried out an operation that resulted in the death of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as El Mencho, the longtime leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, or CJNG. The operation was supported with logistical and intelligence assistance from the Trump administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After Oseguera Cervantes was killed, cartel members launched coordinated retaliatory attacks across 20 of Mexico\u2019s 32 states, from Tijuana near the U.S. border to Cancun on the Caribbean coast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Authorities said at least 25 National Guard members were killed in the violence, along with 30 suspected CJNG members.
