{"id":65710,"date":"2026-04-01T17:55:24","date_gmt":"2026-04-01T21:55:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bnonews.com\/?p=65710"},"modified":"2026-04-01T17:55:25","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T21:55:25","slug":"federal-and-state-trials-for-luigi-mangione-pushed-back","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bnonews.com\/index.php\/2026\/04\/federal-and-state-trials-for-luigi-mangione-pushed-back\/","title":{"rendered":"Federal and state trials for Luigi Mangione pushed back"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Luigi Mangione\u2019s federal murder trial has been pushed to October, while his separate New York state trial has been delayed until September, according to NBC News and a state court order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mangione\u2019s federal case will now begin with jury selection on Oct. 5, followed by opening statements on Oct. 26 or Nov. 2, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/luigi-mangiones-federal-trial-unitedhealthcare-ceo-killing-pushed-back-rcna266248\">NBC News<\/a> reported, citing a ruling by U.S. District Judge Margaret Garnett at a hearing in downtown Manhattan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jury selection had previously been scheduled to begin on Sept. 8, with opening statements set for Oct. 13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NBC News reported that Mangione\u2019s lawyers had asked Garnett to delay the federal proceedings until January, arguing that the overlap between the two cases would make it difficult for him to prepare for the federal trial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the state case, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Uebey\/status\/2039446285627912215\/photo\/1\">an order<\/a> signed by Justice Gregory Carro and dated April 1 said Mangione\u2019s trial in New York Supreme Court will begin on Sept. 8, replacing the previous date of June 8.
