Sixteen other people were injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bnonews.com\/index.php\/2026\/04\/why-do-you-often-see-early-crash-reports-change-the-next-day\/\">The crash happened<\/a> at 6:48 a.m. Tuesday near Bully-les-Mines in the Pas-de-Calais region, west of Lille, when the Dunkirk-to-Paris train hit the trailer of a truck transporting French army vehicles at a crossing near Mazingarbe. Authorities said 246 passengers were on board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Local newspaper <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lavoixdunord.fr\/1692139\/article\/2026-04-07\/un-tgv-percute-la-remorque-d-un-poids-lourd-vers-bully-les-mines-des-blesses\">La Voix du Nord<\/a> identified the train driver as Claudio di Maggio, a father who was nearing retirement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sixteen other people were injured in the crash. Philippe Tabarot, France\u2019s transport minister, said two of them were initially in critical condition, but both had improved by Tuesday afternoon and were no longer considered to be in immediate danger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities placed the truck driver, a 30-year-old Polish man, in police custody.
