A suspect was critically injured after opening fire on police officers who were responding to a shooting in Indianapolis, according to local officials. A victim with a graze wound to the neck was also hospitalized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident began at about 8 p.m. Wednesday in the 1200 block of Sumner Avenue, where Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to investigate a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a man with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As officers were trying to help the victim, the suspect fired at them from an upstairs window of a nearby home, according to police. Officers took cover and at least one officer returned fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As more officers arrived, police learned a child could be inside the house and in danger. Officers entered the home to look for anyone at risk and to find the suspect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police said officers escorted two adults and two children from the home, all of them unharmed. Officers then found the suspect upstairs with apparent gunshot wounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The suspect was taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said. The original shooting victim was also taken to a hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Investigators said they are not looking for any other suspects and do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community. A firearm was recovered from the second floor of the home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police have not released the identity of the suspect or the victim, and no motive has been announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
