{"id":66728,"date":"2026-05-05T22:05:48","date_gmt":"2026-05-06T02:05:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bnonews.com\/?p=66728"},"modified":"2026-05-05T22:05:49","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T02:05:49","slug":"trump-pauses-ship-escort-operation-in-strait-of-hormuz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bnonews.com\/index.php\/2026\/05\/trump-pauses-ship-escort-operation-in-strait-of-hormuz\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump pauses ship escort operation in Strait of Hormuz"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>President Trump said the United States will pause a planned operation to escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz after what he described as progress toward a \u201ccomplete and final agreement\u201d with Iran, though he said the naval blockade will remain in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/116524418935002706\">announcement<\/a> came after renewed tensions between the United States and Iran over the blockade of the strait and &#8220;Project Freedom,&#8221; an operation Trump announced Sunday to escort ships stranded in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump said the decision was made at the request of Pakistan and other countries, citing what he called the \u201ctremendous military success\u201d of the U.S. campaign against Iran and progress in talks with Iranian representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have mutually agreed that, while the Blockade will remain in full force and effect, Project Freedom (The Movement of Ships through the Strait of Hormuz) will be paused for a short period of time to see whether or not the Agreement can be finalized and signed,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The operation began Monday and was followed by Iranian attacks on several vessels in the region, including an empty UAE tanker and a South Korean vessel. Iran also struck the port of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump did not say how long the pause would last or what terms are being discussed with Iran.
