Kennedy, also known as CVN 79, according to a Navy spokesperson. The carrier is currently under construction at Newport News Shipbuilding in Virginia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sailor who died has been identified as Boatswain\u2019s Mate Seaman Jesse Braswell of Colorado, the Navy said in a statement to <a href=\"https:\/\/news.usni.org\/2026\/06\/08\/sailor-dead-after-shooting-board-carrier-jfk-one-sailor-in-custody\">USNI News<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur deepest condolences are with Seaman Braswell\u2019s family, friends and shipmates,\u201d a Navy spokesperson said in the statement<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Naval Criminal Investigative Service, or NCIS, is leading the investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA sailor has been placed in pretrial confinement in connection with the death,\u201d NCIS said in a statement. \u201cCharges have not yet been filed as the investigation remains active and ongoing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The identity of the sailor in pretrial confinement has not been released, and officials have not said how the shooting unfolded aboard the carrier.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A sailor was killed in a shooting aboard the aircraft carrier John F.
