A patient in Scotland who was tested for Ebola as a precaution has tested negative, according to health officials. There are no confirmed cases of Ebola in Scotland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The patient was admitted to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow early Tuesday, after which precautionary measures were taken while testing was carried out, according to the BBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Public Health Scotland<\/a> said the test result has now been received and was negative. Officials said the person was tested under established procedures for assessing travelers arriving in the United Kingdom from areas affected by Ebola.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Health officials did not release details about the patient, including where the person had traveled or whether they had been in an outbreak area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Public Health Scotland said the risk to the general public remains low.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The precautionary test comes as the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) battles a growing Ebola outbreak that was declared on May 15 and has spread across several provinces, mostly in Ituri. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

France confirmed its first case last week in a doctor who had returned from a humanitarian mission in the DRC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of Tuesday, Congo has reported 1,333 cases and 399 deaths, while neighboring Uganda has reported 20 cases and 2 deaths, according to a BNO News count<\/a> based on health ministry and World Health Organization data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The outbreak is caused by Bundibugyo virus, a species of Ebola virus for which there are no approved vaccines or therapeutics. Ebola can spread through direct contact with the blood or bodily fluids of infected people or those who have died from the disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The World Health Organization declared the outbreak a public health emergency of international concern on May 17 because of active transmission in Congo\u2019s Ituri province.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
