Wang Xuemeng, a spokesperson for the People\u2019s Liberation Army Navy, said a Chinese submarine launched a strategic missile carrying a dummy warhead toward waters in the Pacific Ocean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wang said the missile \u201clanded precisely within the designated waters\u201d and described the launch as a routine part of China\u2019s annual military training schedule. He said \u201crelevant nations\u201d were informed in advance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe operation was in accordance with international law and practice, targeting no specific country or objective,\u201d Wang said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CNN, citing a regional source familiar with the launch, reported that the missile traveled over the exclusive economic zones of the Federated States of Micronesia, Nauru, Kiribati and Tuvalu before landing near the maritime boundary of either Kiribati or Tuvalu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Chinese navy operates two types of submarine-launched ballistic missiles, the JL-2 and JL-3, <a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2026\/07\/06\/china\/china-tests-submarine-launched-ballistic-missile-intl-hnk-ml\">according to CNN<\/a>.
