Two U.S. service members were killed and another is missing after Iranian ballistic missiles and drones targeted American forces in Jordan, according to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM). Four others were hospitalized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CENTCOM<\/a> announced the casualties Saturday, saying the attack happened Friday as U.S. and partner forces defended against the Iranian strikes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Four service members were medically evacuated to hospitals in Jordan but have since been discharged. Other personnel evaluated for minor injuries have returned to duty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Friday\u2019s attack was the fourth against U.S. forces in Jordan in five days, The New York Times<\/a> reported, citing multiple American officials. Together, the strikes wounded dozens of service members and damaged several helicopters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first attack struck a residential facility at King Faisal Air Base, injuring as many as five U.S. service members. A second strike hit a base in eastern Jordan where U.S. Black Hawk helicopters were operating, damaging a significant number of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iranian missiles later struck Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Azraq, injuring about 20 U.S. troops as they rushed toward bunkers. The same base was struck again Friday, killing the two service members and leaving another missing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before Friday\u2019s attack, the Pentagon had reported that 14 American service members had died during the war with Iran as a result of hostile actions or accidents. Another service member died from a medical emergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei accused the U.S. on Saturday of repeatedly violating the Memorandum of Understanding and said Trump\u2019s signature was \u201cutterly worthless and devoid of credibility.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNow that the American enemy is seeking to escalate the conflict thereby incurring even heavier costs and further humiliation, it should know that the noble nation of Iran and the Resistance Front have unforgettable lessons in store for it,\u201d Khamenei said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The latest fighting began after Iran attacked commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, leading to U.S. strikes inside Iran on July 7. Tehran responded by firing missiles at U.S. assets in neighboring countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The U.S. resumed a naval blockade Tuesday against vessels traveling to or from Iranian ports or carrying Iranian cargo, while allowing other ships to pass through the strait.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
