The aircraft landed safely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Flight 16F, an Airbus A330-300 traveling from Zurich to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, landed at Bangor International Airport at about noon on Monday, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/newsroom\/statements\/accident_incidents\">FAA<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The flight declared an emergency shortly after passing over Nova Scotia, according to flight tracking data from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airnavradar.com\/data\/flights\/LX16\/2849282850\">AirNav Radar<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In air traffic control audio, pilots reported \u201can active fire in the cockpit, not able to put it out.\u201d Before landing, the pilots told controllers that \u201cthe smoke situation\u201d had improved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SWISS told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wabi.tv\/2026\/07\/27\/swiss-air-flight-diverted-bangor-international-airport\/\">WABI<\/a> that the diversion was caused by smoke in the business-class area. The source of the smoke remains unknown, and the airline said the aircraft would be thoroughly inspected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The airport closed its runway during the emergency, but it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/FlyBGR\/posts\/pfbid0B23QVeTMzM1RH8xi9zqbU2t3mpuMgk1e7qNV8pnfHDESAmAmATVf3yn5845QRCwvl?__cft__[0]=AZbszqSjzYUvjVZFNW5Nm7Sj94WhCNvwTGWjMAd-RaTRt0Jh8aQIwRRBd_TuT3qMC3sxr3A--LPYRHqC3WlchkHknpLr1jAkAompc3hb5DnoHcTdddDWD8PyrgvC7hyzy1X1oTedYObtGb64QZe4o_mg&amp;__tn__=%2CO%2CP-R\">reopened<\/a> about an hour later.
