DAILY GUIDANCE AND PRESS SCHEDULE FOR

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 22, 2009

In the morning, President Obama will travel to Iowa. Secretary Vilsack will accompany him. The departure from the South Lawn and the arrival at the Des Moines International Airport are open press.

The President will receive a tour and meet with workers at Trinity Structural Towers, the former Maytag plant which now houses a green manufacturing facility that produces towers for wind energy production, in Newton.  Iowa, a leader in wind energy, is a perfect example of how a community can rebuild a local economy with investments in clean energy and efficiency. Trinity employs dozens of former Maytag employees and is part of the revitalization of a town hard hit by the closing of the Maytag plant.

Following the tour, President Obama will deliver remarks discussing components of his comprehensive energy plan, which include promoting clean energy innovation to help end our dependence on foreign oil, creating millions of new jobs, and preventing the worst consequences of climate change.

The President will depart Iowa in the afternoon and return to Washington, DC in the evening. The arrival on the South Lawn is open press.

Also tomorrow, as part of the procurement process of a new White House Office fleet of vehicles, the White House has invited Chrysler, GM, and Ford to participate in a green vehicle market research day.  Members of the press interested in being escorted to view the vehicles should meet at the stakeout location at 9:15AM EDT.
