DAILY GUIDANCE AND PRESS SCHEDULE FOR

TUESDAY, APRIL 21, 2009

 

In the morning, the President will receive the Presidential Daily Briefing in the Oval Office.  This meeting is closed press.

 

Later in the morning, President Obama will hold a one-on-one meeting with King Abdullah of Jordan in the Personal Dining Room, followed by an expanded meeting in the Oval Office. There will be a pool spray at the bottom of the expanded meeting in the Oval Office.

 

Later, the President will receive the Economic Daily Briefing and meet with senior advisors in the Oval Office. These meetings are closed press.

 

In the afternoon, the President will present the Commander in Chief’s trophy to the Naval Academy football team in the Rose Garden. This event will have expanded pool coverage.

 

Later in the afternoon, the President and the Vice President will meet with Senator Kennedy and former President Clinton in the Oval Office to discuss their shared commitment to national service. There will be a pooled photo spray at the top of the meeting.

 

The President will then travel to The SEED School of Washington, D.C., an innovative public school that caters to underserved students who may face challenges in school and at home, where he will deliver remarks calling on people across the country to serve their communities and work together to tackle the challenges facing the nation. Senator Kennedy will introduce the President. Following his remarks, President Obama will sign the bipartisan Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, which will open up new service opportunities for millions of Americans. The First Lady, Vice President Biden, Dr. Jill Biden, former President Clinton, and former First Lady Rosalyn Carter will also attend. This event is open to credentialed media only; the deadline to apply for credentials has already passed.

 

Following the signing, the President and First Lady will participate in a service activity in Washington, D.C. This event is pooled press.

 

Also tomorrow, Alan Solomont, Chair of the Corporation for National and Community Service, Stephen Goldsmith, Vice Chair of the Corporation for National and Community Service, and Melody Barnes, Director of the White House Domestic Policy Council, will hold a conference call to brief reporters on the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act and President Obama’s call to all Americans to stand up and do what they can to serve their communities, shape our history and enrich both their own lives and the lives of others across this country.
