The incident began just after 10 a.m. local time on Wednesday when police ordered an evacuation of the departures area at Frankfurt Airport. Police officers were seen blocking entrances and outgoing flights have been delayed.
"Today at Frankfurt Airport a passenger entered the security area before the security check had been completed," Frankfurt Airport said in a statement. "Therefore the German federal police cleared departure hall A as a preventative measure. Passengers will be rechecked prior to departure."
The person who breached security was not in custody as of 11:20 a.m. and it is unclear whether the breach was intentional, the Reuters news agency reported.
Other details were not immediately available, but federal police emphasized that the evacuation was only as a precaution. "There is no bomb threat," police added.
Frankfurt Airport is Europe's fourth-busiest.airport in Europe and the 12th busiest worldwide.
