CBS cameraman suffers medical emergency during evening newscast

A cameraman suffered a medical emergency during the final segment of “CBS Evening News” while anchor Tony Dokoupil was on air from Taipei, briefly interrupting the broadcast, the network said.

The incident happened Wednesday night as Dokoupil was presenting the final segment from Taiwan’s capital. The camera began shaking while he continued speaking, before he stopped and asked: “Is he okay?”

Dokoupil paused for a moment and then told viewers the program would go to a break.

“We are going to take a quick break. We have a medical emergency here,” Dokoupil said. “We are calling a doctor.”

Another person could be heard off camera asking someone to “call the doctor, please,” before correspondent Matt Gutman took over and sent the broadcast to a break.

“Tonight during the final segment of CBS Evening News, our cameraman on set suffered a medical emergency,” the show said in a statement on X. “Thankfully, he’s okay and recovering.”

CBS did not identify the camera operator or say what caused the medical emergency.
