2 suspects arrested after U.S. Park Police officer shot in Washington, D.C.
Two suspects have been arrested after a U.S. Park Police officer was shot in southeast Washington, D.C. on Monday, according to officials. The officer has since been released from the hospital.
The shooting happened at about 7:30 p.m. Monday in the 5000 block of Queens Stroll Place SE, where the officer was inside an unmarked vehicle while investigating an offense that occurred in U.S. Park Police jurisdiction, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
Police said two armed men approached the vehicle and fired multiple shots as the officer drove away. The officer was able to escape the gunfire and was later found in the 4600 block of Hillside Road SE.
The officer was flown by the U.S. Park Police aviation unit to a hospital for treatment of injuries that police said were not life-threatening. Authorities said Tuesday that the officer had been discharged.
The first suspect, 21-year-old Darren Foster of southeast Washington, was located and stopped shortly after the shooting on Monday, police said. Officers located the second suspect, 22-year-old Asheile Foster of southeast Washington, on Tuesday.
Both men were charged with assault on a federal police officer with a gun, according to police. Authorities have not said what led to the shooting.
The shooting took place in the Marshall Heights area of southeast Washington, a residential area with multiple housing developments in southeast D.C.
The Metropolitan Police Department said the case is being investigated by its NIBIN Investigations Unit, along with agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and detectives from the U.S. Park Police.
