Federal officer shot in southeast D.C., taken to hospital in critical condition

A U.S. Park Police officer has been shot in southeast Washington and taken to a hospital in critical condition, according to officials. No information about a suspect was immediately released.

The shooting happened Monday evening in the 5000 block of Queens Stroll Place SE, in the Marshall Heights neighborhood, a residential area with multiple housing developments in southeast D.C.

A reporter for NBC Washington said multiple sources told the station the officer was taken to a hospital by medevac.

The D.C. Police Union said the injured officer, who was hospitalized in critical condition, is a member of the U.S. Park Police, a federal law enforcement agency that patrols federal parkland and other government areas in the Washington area.

Attorney General Pamela Bondi said she spoke with Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser and Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela Smith Carroll and was briefed on the shooting. Bondi said the FBI, DEA, ATF, U.S. Marshals Service and other partner agencies would assist the Metropolitan Police Department.

“Praying for the Park Police officer shot in Washington, D.C.,” FBI Director Kash Patel said in a statement. “The FBI is actively supporting the investigation alongside our law enforcement partners and will bring those responsible to justice.”

Authorities had not released information about a suspect.
