1 dead, 6 injured in shooting at Chick-fil-A in Union Township, NJ
One person was killed and six others were injured in a shooting at a Chick-fil-A in Union Township, New Jersey, according to officials. Authorities said the shooting does not appear to have been random.
The shooting happened at about 9 p.m. on Saturday at the Chick-fil-A on Route 22, when officers responding to a report of gunfire found seven victims, according to the Union County Prosecutor’s Office.
One of the victims was pronounced dead. The other six were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to prosecutors.
CBS News New York reported that witness video showed someone wearing a mask running from the scene with a handgun, while several other people were seen leaving the parking lot.
The outlet also cited a man who said his girlfriend, an employee at the restaurant, told him a group of men entered the Chick-fil-A, went behind the counter and then opened fire.
CBS News New York also spoke to another person, who said their family member witnessed some kind of altercation involving the gunmen before the shooting.
Authorities said the shooting remains under investigation, but the preliminary investigation indicates it was not a random act of violence and that there is no immediate threat to the general public.
No arrests had been made as of Sunday. Police asked anyone with information to come forward, saying anonymous tips that lead to an indictment and conviction may be eligible for a reward of up to $10,000.
