1 killed, 3 critically injured and dog wounded in Indianapolis stabbing

One person was killed and three others were critically injured after being stabbed at a home in Indianapolis, according to police. A dog was also injured.

The incident happened at about 2:40 p.m. Tuesday when officers were called to a report of a person stabbed in the 3200 block of South Lockburn Street, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said.

At a briefing, officer Tommy Thompson said that officers arrived and found two adult women and an adult man outside the home with injuries consistent with trauma. A second adult man was found inside the home with similar injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Decatur Township firefighters transported the two women and one man to area hospitals in critical condition, Thompson said.

A dog was also found inside the home and was removed by animal care and control. “That animal is serious but stable at this time,” Thompson said.

Police did not immediately identify any of the victims, and officials have not said how they were related to one another. Thompson said investigators were still working to determine what led to the attack.

“It looks like there is some type of penetrating object,” Thompson said when asked whether the victims had been stabbed. “We’re working to find out what that weapon was that was possibly used.”

Police did not immediately announce any arrests or identify a suspect. Investigators were still working to determine what happened inside and outside the home, including the roles of the people who were found injured or dead.

Thompson said investigators believe the incident was isolated and asked residents in the area to come forward with surveillance video or witness information.

“This affects this very tight-knit community,” Thompson said. “This area knows everybody well down here.”
