3 killed, multiple injured after driver strikes pedestrians in Oakland, CA
Three people were killed and several others were injured when a vehicle struck pedestrians and cars in East Oakland, according to fire officials. The circumstances of the crash were not immediately known.
The incident happened just before 11:15 p.m. on Saturday near 85th Avenue and International Boulevard, according to the Oakland Fire Department.
The intersection is in a mixed residential and commercial corridor in East Oakland, near a Baptist church, though officials did not immediately identify the exact scene of the incident.
Fire officials said three people were dead when first responders arrived. Three others were taken to local hospitals, including two in critical condition and one in serious condition.
Two additional people were waiting to be taken for medical treatment with minor injuries, including the suspect, according to the fire department. Officials did not release the suspect’s name.
No details were immediately released about the ages of the victims or what led up to the incident. Fire officials told people to avoid the area.
