What is the White House press pool?
Wherever the President of the United States travels, a small group of journalists travels too. Known as the White House press pool, this rotating contingent of reporters, photographers, and camera operators follows the President around the clock — from formal addresses and bilateral meetings to motorcade arrivals and brief remarks on the South Lawn.
More journalists want to cover the President than logistics allow. In response, the White House Correspondents' Association organizes a rotating pool representing wire services, television networks, and print and digital outlets. These journalists cover the President on behalf of the entire credentialed press corps.
After each event or travel leg, the pool reporter files a detailed first-person account — a pool report — describing what they witnessed, heard, and observed. It is distributed by email to hundreds of credentialed White House correspondents within minutes. The daily schedule, travel notices, and guidance documents are distributed the same way.
About this site
Pool reports are public record, but they have historically been difficult for the general public to access — circulated only among a closed list of credentialed journalists.
BNO News monitors the pool report inbox around the clock. The moment a new report arrives, it is automatically published here — unedited, unfiltered, and in full. What you read on this site is exactly what Washington's journalists read, often within seconds of it being sent.
You can browse the full archive, search by keyword or date, and subscribe to push notifications to receive an alert the moment a new report is published.
Help us expand the archive
We are actively looking to publish historical pool reports that predate this site. If you have access to an archive of pool reports — whether from your own inbox, an organization's records, or any other source — we would love to hear from you.
