9 injured in stabbing attack at Idaho apartment complex
Nine people, including refugees, have been injured in a stabbing attack at an apartment complex in the city of Boise in Idaho, local police say. A suspect was taken into custody as he tried to flee the scene.
The incident happened at 8:46 p.m. MT on Saturday when police received a call about a man with a knife at an apartment complex in northwest Boise, the state’s capital. The complex is known to house a number of refugees.
“Officers arrived and quickly located the suspect and took him into custody at 8:50 p.m. as he headed northbound near the apartments,” the Boise Police Department said in a statement. “Additional officers located 9 victims inside and outside of the apartments and began providing first aid.”
The victims were taken to a local hospital where four were reported to be suffering from life-threatening injuries. A number of refugees are among the victims, although it was not immediately clear whether they were specifically targeted by the suspect.
Boise Police Chief William Bones said the attack took place “without provocation,” but added that the motive was still being investigated. The suspect, who is being questioned by detectives, was only described as a 30-year-old man.
“As you can imagine the witnesses in the apartment complex along with the rest of our community are reeling from this attack,” Bones said. “This incident is not a representation of our community but a single evil individual who attacked people without provocation that we are aware of at this time.”
