All 4 U.S. soldiers killed in Jordan and Iraq identified
The Pentagon has identified the four soldiers who were killed or are presumed dead in two incidents in Jordan and Iraq during the war with Iran. Three were casualties of an enemy attack in Jordan, while the fourth died while handling explosives from a downed Iranian drone in Iraq.
The Department of War identified 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas; Sgt. Angel S. Rampersad, 28, of Ozone Park, New York; and Sgt. Michael Emmanuel Swinton, 30, of Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Gonzales was killed in the July 17 attack at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan. Feehan died from his injuries the following day.
Rampersad was initially reported missing after the attack. The Department of War said Tuesday that his status had been changed to Duty Status–Whereabouts Unknown and that he is believed to be dead. Unidentified remains were found Sunday during the search at the site of the attack.
Gonzales and Rampersad were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment in Ansbach, Germany. Feehan was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Swinton was killed Sunday during a controlled detonation of a downed one-way attack drone at Erbil Air Base in northern Iraq. He was assigned to D Battery, 2nd Battalion, 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment at Fort Bragg.
At least 19 U.S. service members have died as a direct or indirect result of attacks during the ongoing war with Iran.
