Small plane crashes into home near Minneapolis; sparks large fire

A small plane has crashed into a home near Minneapolis, Minnesota, sparking a large fire that prompted an emergency response from local fire crews, according to first responders. All occupants of the aircraft were killed.

The aircraft, identified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as a SOCATA TBM7, went down around 12:20 p.m. local time in a residential area of Brooklyn Park. The plane had departed from Des Moines International Airport in Iowa and was en route to Anoka County–Blaine Airport in Minneapolis. The number of people on board has not been confirmed.

Brooklyn Park Fire Chief Shawn Conway confirmed there were no survivors from the plane, but no fatalities among the home’s occupants.

According to the Extra Alarm Association of the Twin Cities, the plane crashed into a home near the intersection of Kyle Avenue North and Noble Avenue. Fire crews arrived at approximately 12:23 p.m. to find the home fully engulfed in flames, with fire threatening nearby structures.

Brooklyn Park Engine 1 initiated fire suppression efforts, while Tower 21 deployed its aerial unit for water tower operations. Additional engines established water supply lines to support firefighting activities.

Crews were instructed not to disturb any aircraft debris to preserve the scene for federal investigators. Both the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will lead the investigation, with the NTSB in charge of providing future updates.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said on social media that his team was in contact with local officials and monitoring the situation closely. “Grateful to the first responders answering the call,” he wrote.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
