Trump comments on disappearance of Nancy Guthrie
President Trump said he has been briefed on the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie, calling the situation “terrible.”
Asked Tuesday about the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie during remarks in the Oval Office, President Trump said, “I think it’s terrible.” He said he plans to call Savannah Guthrie “later on” and described the situation as “very unusual.”
Earlier, the White House posted a public appeal on social media saying the search for Nancy Guthrie is ongoing and asking anyone with information to contact 911. “Our prayers are with the Guthrie family as we hope for Nancy’s safe return home,” the post said.
Authorities believe Guthrie was abducted from her home near Tucson and did not leave voluntarily. Officials have said she has significant mobility limitations and requires medication, adding that going without it could be life-threatening.
TMZ reported earlier Tuesday that it received an alleged ransom note calling for a cryptocurrency payment in the millions to a specified Bitcoin address, adding that the note includes a deadline and an “or else” warning. A Tucson newsroom also reported receiving a similar note.
