Gunmen film targeted shooting on Lamborghini in western Mexico; 3 killed

Three people were killed and four others were injured in a targeted attack involving a local businessman traveling in a Lamborghini in western Mexico, according to officials. The incident was recorded on video by one of the assailants.

The shooting was reported around 1 p.m. local time on Monday in Zapopan, part of the Guadalajara metropolitan area in the western Mexican state of Jalisco. Authorities said a group of armed individuals intercepted a Lamborghini SUV as it traveled through city streets.

Gunmen opened fire on the vehicle and a separate bodyguard vehicle for several minutes, according to El Universal. Reports said the bodyguards returned fire during the attack.

The Jalisco prosecutor’s office said the driver, local businessman Alberto “El Prieto” Valencia, his 16-year-old daughter and a bodyguard were killed. Four additional bodyguards were injured, including one reported to be in critical condition.

Authorities recovered a Lamborghini Urus and a GMC Yukon that were heavily damaged by gunfire. No arrests have been reported.

Video circulating on social media, which appears to have been recorded by one of the assailants, shows at least seven gunmen, several armed with high-powered rifles, firing repeatedly at the SUV before fleeing in two vehicles.

Jalisco has seen repeated episodes of cartel-related violence and is considered a stronghold of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), which has carried out numerous high-profile attacks in and around the Guadalajara metropolitan area. The group was designated a foreign terrorist organization by the Trump administration.
