Utah man arrested after threats to Jewish community; explosives seized
A 21-year-old man was arrested in northern Utah after authorities said they uncovered an online threat of serious violence directed at the Jewish community. Investigators said explosive devices, explosives materials, and firearms were seized during the investigation.
The investigation began at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday after the Ogden Police Department was notified by Utah’s Statewide Information and Analysis Center of an online threat, information that originated from a tip received by the FBI’s Salt Lake City Field Office, according to police.
Police said officers responded to a home in the 1300 block of Millcreek Drive in Ogden, where detectives later served a search warrant. Authorities said explosive devices, explosive materials, and multiple firearms were located inside the residence.
Bomb technicians secured the scene and removed the devices for disposal.
The suspect was identified as Skyler Rose, 21, of Ogden. He was taken into custody and booked into the Weber County Jail. Authorities said they believe a single individual was involved.
Rose was booked on multiple charges, including threat of terrorism, possession of a weapon of mass destruction, possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Investigators said the case remains under investigation and additional charges may be filed.
Ogden Police Chief Jake Sube said reports suggesting a specific local synagogue was targeted are not supported by the evidence at this stage, adding that there is no ongoing threat to the public or the Jewish community at this time.
Ogden is a city in northern Utah, located about 40 miles north of Salt Lake City along the Wasatch Front.
