Driver arrested after ramming doors at Chabad headquarters in Brooklyn

A driver was arrested after repeatedly ramming the side doors of Chabad headquarters in New York with his vehicle, according to a spokesperson for the organization. No injuries were reported.

The incident occurred Wednesday night at 770 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, the global headquarters of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement. The synagogue was evacuated as a precaution while authorities checked for additional threats.

“A car just drove into the side doors of 770 at Chabad Headquarters,” Yaacov Behrman, who handles public relations for Chabad headquarters, said in a post. “There are no injuries. Witnesses report the driver yelled for people to move as he drove in. It appears intentional.”

Video recorded at the scene shows the driver repeatedly ramming the doors, backing up and striking them again as a crowd watched, causing visible damage without the car entering the building.

The footage shows the driver, a man with long hair and a beard, exiting the vehicle as bystanders confronted him. He can be heard saying, “I don’t know, it f*cking slipped,” while pointing toward the car, moments before New York Police Department officers took him into custody.

Authorities have not released the identity of the suspect or a possible motive.
