Alabama special agent shot during operation in Montgomery
An Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) special agent has been shot during an officer-involved incident in Montgomery, according to state officials. The agent was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The shooting occurred Wednesday at approximately 5:51 p.m. in the 4000 block of Longleaf Drive in Montgomery, which is the capital city of Alabama and located in Montgomery County, ALEA said in a press release.
ALEA said the agent is assigned to its SWAT team and was struck by gunfire while officers were working an enforcement detail. The operation involved ALEA SWAT and officers assigned to the Metro Area Crime Suppression Unit, known as MACS.
The agency said the incident remains under active investigation and that no further details are being released at this time. Officials have not disclosed the agent’s condition or the status of any suspect.
“We ask for prayers and support for the Special Agent, their family and the members of our Agency during this time,” ALEA said in its statement.
