Florida man arrested after posting threat to kill Trump on Instagram
A Florida man has been arrested after federal prosecutors said he posted an Instagram photo of himself with an AR-15-style rifle and a caption threatening to kill President Trump.
The charge was announced Monday against 20-year-old Nick Guadalupe Cruz-Lopez of Plant City, which is east of Tampa in west-central Florida. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida said he was charged by criminal complaint with making a threat to kill the president of the United States.
According to the complaint, Cruz-Lopez posted the image on Instagram on April 2. Federal agents located and arrested him the same day.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said the image showed Cruz-Lopez sitting in a vehicle while holding an AR-15-style rifle. The caption read: “MAGA Otw to kill trump.”
The case was investigated by the U.S. Secret Service. If convicted, Cruz-Lopez faces up to five years in federal prison.
