Maine man convicted of threatening Kamala Harris and Elon Musk

A Maine man has been convicted of posting threats to kill former Vice President Kamala Harris, Elon Musk, Jewish people and law enforcement officers, according to federal prosecutors.

Thadius Wind, 52, of Eddington, was found guilty Tuesday. He was convicted of three counts of transmitting interstate threats and one count of threatening the vice president, but acquitted of one additional charge.

Wind posted the threats on X in 2024, repeatedly calling for people to be killed and expressing hostility toward those he targeted, according to prosecutors.

In July 2024, Wind threatened to kill Harris. Three months later, he called for everyone at the White House to be killed, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit says Wind also threatened Trump in an October 17 post, writing: “Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. You are granted the opportunity and the privilege to come forth and request that I remove your head…”

Wind also repeatedly called for Jewish people to be killed. Some of the posts called for their “extermination,” while another asked his followers whether they had killed a Jewish person that day.

Other posts threatened police officers. In one message, Wind said he would kill any officer, while another encouraged violence against politicians, judges and police.

The FBI first began investigating Wind in March 2024 after Meta provided records from two Facebook accounts that discussed violence against police officers and military personnel. Subscriber information linked both accounts to Wind.

The investigation later expanded to an account on X after the FBI received a tip in September 2024. The account had posted Wind’s home address and photos of his face, which agents compared with known photographs of him.

Records obtained from X showed that the account used Wind’s date of birth and was created from an internet address assigned to his home. The account also contained photos of swords and other threatening posts.

The affidavit said police responded to Wind’s home at least 14 times between January and October 2024. During one encounter in May, Wind threatened to kill two officers, according to a police report cited in the document.

Federal prosecutors said evidence presented at trial also showed that Wind threatened Musk, but they did not release the wording of those posts.

Agents searched Wind’s home in Eddington, a town near Bangor, in March 2025 and found numerous swords.

Wind faces up to five years in prison, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release on each count.
