A man was detained after trying to breach the White House perimeter, injuring an officer during a physical altercation, according to the U.S. Secret Service.
The incident happened at about 11:30 a.m. EDT on Thursday near the Treasury Building on the northeast side of the White House complex, where the man jumped over a construction bollard, according to Secret Service communications chief Anthony Guglielmi in a statement provided to NewsNation.
Guglielmi said officers encountered the man near a pedestrian gate, where he became involved in a physical altercation before being taken into custody.
One officer suffered a laceration during the incident, Guglielmi said. The officer and the suspect were both medically evaluated for minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.
Officials have not identified the suspect, and no information was immediately released about possible charges or a motive.
