Westside High School student shot before getting on bus in Jacksonville
A student from Westside High School in Jacksonville, Florida, was shot and seriously injured before he boarded a school bus, local officials say. The student suffered serious injuries.
The shooting happened on early Wednesday morning, but only few details were immediately available. The victim got onto a school bus and the driver drove to a fire station, from where the victim was rushed to hospital.
“Apparently some of the students saw the shooting take place,” Duval County School Board member Scott Shine told Action News Jax, adding that the shooting did not happen on the school bus itself. “We have a crisis team headed to both the school and to the fire station.”
According to initial reports, the student was shot in the chest and is being treated at UF Health for life-threatening injuries. There was no immediate word on the circumstances of the shooting and no arrests have been made.
After the shooting, two students were arrested when they became uncooperative while being questioned by police. One of the students allegedly tried to take an officer’s Taser, after which the student was tased.
