DNC official Seth Rich shot dead in Washington, D.C.
Seth Conrad Rich, who worked as Voter Expansion Data Director at the Democratic National Committee, has been killed in a shooting in Washington, D.C. over the weekend, officials say. No arrests have been made.
The incident happened at around 4:20 a.m. ET on Sunday when officers patrolling in northwest D.C. heard gunshots being fired. Upon arrival in the 2100 block of Flagler Place, they located Rich, who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
A statement released by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) on Monday said that Rich was conscious and breathing at the scene, but he succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to an area hospital. He was 27 years old.
Rich worked as Voter Expansion Data Director for the Democratic Party’s national committee, though there was no immediate word on a possible motive for his murder. No arrests had been made as of Monday afternoon.
“Our hearts are broken with the loss of one of our DNC family members over the weekend,” DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz said in a statement. “Seth Rich was a dedicated, selfless public servant who worked tirelessly to protect the most sacred right we share as Americans – the right to vote.”
Schultz added: “He saw the great potential of our nation and believed that, together, we can make the world a better place. He was a joy to have as a member of our team, and his talents, intelligence and enthusiasm will be deeply missed by the many friends, colleagues and coworkers who worked by his side in service to the highest ideals of our democracy.”
A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Rich’s murder. Anyone with information is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099, or submit information anonymously by texting 50411.
