Rapper XXXTentacion killed in Florida shooting
XXXTentacion, the Florida rapper who amassed millions of followers after releasing his songs on SoundCloud, has been shot and killed near Miami, local officials say. He was 20 years old.
The incident happened just before 4 p.m. ET on Monday when the rapper, whose real name is Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, was shopping for motorcycles in Deerfield Beach. A man ran up to his vehicle and opened fire, according to TMZ.
Video shared by witnesses showed Onfroy’s body in the driver’s seat of his vehicle. He was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s OFfice.
Details about the circumstances of Monday’s shooting were not immediately released.
Onfroy, whose latest album reached number one on the Billboard 200, was a controversial figure despite his rising popularity over the last few years. He was facing felony charges for domestic violence against his pregnant ex-girlfriend.
