Utah Amber Alert: Amelia Arredondo abducted in West Jordan

UPDATE: The amber alert has been canceled. Amelia was found safe, according to the Utah Department of Public Safety.

A Utah Amber Alert has been issued for 7-year-old Amelia Arredondo from West Jordan after she was abducted by an older woman, local officials say. Anyone with information is urged to call 911 immediately.

The abduction happened in West Jordan, near Salt Lake City, at around 9:30 a.m. on Monday, according to the amber alert. Specific details about the circumstances of the abduction were not immediately released.

“This is a non family abduction,” the amber alert said, adding that the Amelia is believed to be in danger.

The suspect has been identified as Bernice Quintana, a 56-year-old female with brown hair, standing 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighing 160 pounds. The nature of her relationship to Amelia, if any, was not immediately clear.

Bernice is believed to have taken the child in a silver 2007 Mitsubishi Galant with Utah license plate number 8R2MH.

Amelia is described as a 7-year-old white female with dirty blonde hair in a bun or pony tail and blue eyes, standing 4 feet tall and weighing 60 pounds. She was last seen wearing a pink t-shirt and jeans.

Anyone who Amelia, Bernice, or the suspect vehicle is urged to call 911 immediately, or call the West Jordan Police Department at 801-840-4000 if you have any other information that could help investigators.
