Barricaded suspect fires on police in Port Huron, Michigan; shelter-in-place ordered
UPDATE 2: Police say the situation began at 7:19 p.m. when officers were called for a physical domestic assault in progress. When they arrived, the suspect began firing shots towards the officers, who took cover and established a perimeter around the residence. The suspect later fired additional shots from an upstairs window. Negotiators briefly spoke with the suspect but the efforts had no results. Officers later deployed a drone into the residence, where the man was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. No officers were injured during this incident.
UPDATE: The situation remains active as of 10:36 p.m., with the suspect still barricaded, according to the Port Huron Police Department. A shelter-in-place order remains in effect for residents near the area.
Police are responding to an “active and dangerous situation” involving a barricaded subject and gunfire in Port Huron, Michigan, according to officials.
The Port Huron Police Department said in a post at 8:42 p.m. local time that officers were dispatched to a disorderly complaint in the 3000 block of 26th Street, between Nern and Manuel streets. As officers approached the location, gunfire was directed at them, leading police to establish a perimeter and order residents to shelter inside their homes.
In an update at 9:31 p.m., police said the shelter-in-place order remained in effect and that officers were still receiving gunfire from the suspect’s home. Multiple local, county, and state law enforcement agencies were reported on scene.
The location appears to be the Huron Village housing complex in the southwestern part of the city. Authorities have not released information on any injuries or provided details about the suspect.
Port Huron is located in eastern Michigan along the St. Clair River, across from Sarnia, Ontario, and about 60 miles northeast of Detroit.
