Failed air defense missile strikes apartment building in southern Russia
Eight people, including a child, were injured after an explosion damaged an apartment building in southern Russia, with local authorities blaming a Ukrainian drone attack while video footage suggests a failed Russian air defense missile.
The incident occurred overnight in the Takhtamukay district of the Republic of Adygea, near the village of Novaya Adygea, according to regional authorities. The area lies just outside Krasnodar.
Adygea’s regional head Murat Kumpilov said eight people were injured, including one child. Seven victims were hospitalized. No fatalities were reported.
Russian authorities described the incident as a drone attack, while video footage from the scene suggests the damage may have been caused by a failed air defense missile.
Kumpilov said the explosion sparked a fire that damaged a multi-apartment residential building and a nearby parking area. He said 15 vehicles were destroyed and another 25 were damaged.
Footage from the aftermath showed severe damage to at least one residential building, with parts of exterior walls collapsed.
