Indiana judge and wife shot at home; suspect remains at large
A county judge and his wife were shot inside their home in Indiana, according to officials. The suspect has not been arrested.
Police responded at about 2:17 p.m. Sunday to a reported shooting in the 1700 block of Mill Pond Lane in Lafayette, according to the Lafayette Police Department. Officers found two adults suffering from gunshot wounds.
Police identified the victims as Steve Meyer, a judge on Tippecanoe Superior Court 2, and his wife Kimberly Meyer. Steve Meyer was shot in the arm and Kimberly Meyer was shot in the hip. Both received medical treatment and were reported in stable condition.
Police have not released information about the circumstances of the shooting or a possible motive. No arrests have been announced.
Shell casings were recovered at the scene. Police said the investigation remains active and ongoing, with assistance from the Indiana State Police, the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office, the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office, and the FBI.
In a message sent Sunday to judges across the state, Indiana Chief Justice Loretta H. Rush said the suspected shooter was still at large and asked judges to remain vigilant “in your own security.”
A statement issued Monday by Tippecanoe County judges said Steve Meyer remains hospitalized in stable condition.
Lafayette police asked anyone with information related to the shooting to contact the department.
