Indiana Rep. Jim Baird discharged from hospital after hit-and-run crash; wife remains in ICU
U.S. Representative Jim Baird of Indiana has been discharged from the hospital less than 24 hours after being injured in a hit-and-run traffic crash, while his wife remains hospitalized, according to statements from his office and family.
The crash occurred Monday night, when Baird and his wife were struck by a vehicle that fled the scene, according to the Indiana Republican Party. Officials said Baird was hospitalized following the incident and was later discharged after receiving treatment.
An update issued Tuesday evening by Baird’s office said he had been released from the hospital and thanked supporters for their prayers and well wishes. The statement said his wife, Danise, continues to receive medical care as she recovers.
Earlier, Baird’s son Beau Baird said his father suffered minor injuries and was discharged after less than a day. He said Danise Baird remains in stable condition and is being treated in the intensive care unit, where she is expected to remain for several days.
A photo shared by Baird’s office showed the congressman wearing a neck collar and hospital wristbands, with visible bruising on one hand.
The Indiana Republican Party said Baird is expected to make a full recovery. Authorities have not released additional details about the crash.
