Italian fashion designer Valentino Garavani dies at 93

Fashion designer Valentino Garavani has died at the age of 93, according to the Valentino Foundation.

The foundation said Monday that Garavani died at his home in Rome, surrounded by family, according to the Associated Press. No cause of death was specified.

In a statement posted on social media, Maison Valentino, the luxury fashion house he founded in 1960, said it remembered Garavani “with deep emotion and profound affection,” calling his life “a beacon in the ceaseless pursuit of beauty.”

“His unique style and innate elegance will remain forever,” the statement said. “We share with heartfelt sympathy the grief of his loved ones, and we remain committed to preserving and elevating the creative, cultural, and human heritage he entrusted to us.”

Garavani built Valentino into one of the world’s most influential luxury brands, known for haute couture, refined tailoring, and its signature “Valentino red.” His designs were worn by royalty, political figures, and generations of Hollywood stars.

He stepped away from active design work in 2008 but remained closely tied to the brand through the Valentino Foundation, which works to preserve his creative and cultural legacy.

“His life was a beacon in the ceaseless pursuit of beauty, and guided by that same beauty, we will continue to honor his memory with our deepest devotion,” Maison Valentino said.
