Michael Reagan, son of President Ronald Reagan, dies at 80
Michael Edward Reagan, the eldest son of former U.S. President Ronald Reagan, has died, his family announced. He was 80.
In a statement, Reagan’s family said he died on Sunday while surrounded by relatives in Los Angeles, California. A cause of death was not disclosed.
“Michael was and will always remain a beloved husband, father, and grandpa,” the Reagan family said. “Our hearts are deeply broken as we grieve the loss of a man who meant so much to all who knew and loved him.”
The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute also confirmed his death and praised Reagan as a steadfast guardian of his father’s legacy. In a statement, the foundation said Reagan was a familiar presence at the Reagan Library for decades and remained closely connected to its events.
Michael Reagan was the adopted son of Ronald Reagan and actress Jane Wyman and grew up in the public eye as his father rose from Hollywood actor to California governor and later president.
As an adult, he became a conservative commentator, author, and nationally syndicated radio talk show host, often speaking publicly in defense of his father’s policies and political philosophy.
He authored several books reflecting on his life and his relationship with his father, including accounts of their reconciliation after a strained period during his youth.
The Reagan Foundation said Michael Reagan’s passing represents a significant loss to those who valued his role in preserving and sharing President Reagan’s legacy.
Michael Reagan is survived by his wife, Colleen, his children, Cameron and Ashley, and his grandchildren.
