Trump says Rep. Ilhan Omar should be jailed or sent back to Somalia
U.S. President Donald Trump said Rep. Ilhan Omar should be jailed or “sent back to Somalia” in a social media post related to fraud in Minnesota.
“There is 19 Billion Dollars in Minnesota Somalia Fraud,” Trump said late Sunday. “Fake ‘Congresswoman’ Illhan Omar, a constant complainer who hates the USA, knows everything there is to know.”
Trump added that Omar “should be in jail, or even a worse punishment, sent back to Somalia,” followed by: “She could help to MAKE SOMALIA GREAT AGAIN!”
Trump’s remarks follow renewed attention to fraud in Minnesota involving federally funded social programs. Earlier this week, the administration also announced the termination of Temporary Protected Status for Somali nationals.
Omar was born in Somalia and became a U.S. citizen in 2000. A Democrat, she represents Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District and has been the subject of repeated criticism by Trump.
